Kids Were On Song
Children from Holmston Primary School and Ochiltree Primary School added some festive cheer to Nurseries Direct, with renditions of Christmas Carols and seasonal songs entertaining customers and visitors to the garden centre on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December. The weekend also saw Nurseries Direct launch a fund-raising raffle for children's charity Cash for Kids, with mascot Courage the Cat popping in to help sell tickets for the Christmas Eve draw.
"Cash for Kids is a great cause, and one which supports many less fortunate children in Ayrshire and the west of Scotland, so we were delighted to do our bit with a Christmas raffle," says Nurseries Direct's Gillian Drummond. "Both school choirs were excellent and we'd like to thank Mrs Kennedy from Holmston Primary and Mrs Lockie from Ochiltree Primary for helping organise the choirs, and of course the children themselves for their wonderful singing!"

Santa's Here!

Another Date for Cinderella

Cinderella's Fairy Godmother has worked her magic and conjured up an additional performance of the enchanting pantomime at Nurseries Direct. The classic tale, produced and performed by Ayr's acclaimed M&M Productions, will now be running on Wednesday 23rd December, adding another popular 'High Tea' performance after tickets for all scheduled evening shows sold out.
Bringing all the festive fun of a traditional Christmas performance to the relaxed atmosphere of the garden centre - and with tickets including a festive family meal with a certain Mr Claus - the pantomimes have become a much anticipated fixture in the Nurseries Direct calender. "Last year, we ran one performance of Cinderella along with our Peter Pan panto," says Gilian Drummond of the garden centre. "Cinderella was incredibly popular so we decided that had to be our show for 2009, and the demand for tickets so far has been fantastic with our evening shows selling out almost immediately. Thankfully, we were able to have a word with the Fairy Godmother and managed to entice Cinders and co back for one more evening!"
The additional panto night, on Wednesday 23rd December, commences at 5.30pm with High Tea with Santa, followed by curtain up at 7pm. There is also still a chance to secure the last tickets for the remaining morning performance, Saturday 19th December, with breakfast with Santa served from 8.30am, and curtain up at 10am. Tickets for both shows are £15.99 adult and £12.50 child, and can be purchased in store.

Louise is the Winner
Congratulations to Louise Blane from Ayr, the winner of our summer prize draw. Louise's was the first correct entry drawn from the hat in our competition launched at this year's Ayr Flower Show, winning her £500 to spend in store. Lucky Louise chose to spend her winnings on a selection of stylish home accessories, fashions and some lovely garden pieces, and is pictured right being congratulated by Nurseries Direct's Margo Gilmour.

Birds, Bees....& Nutz!
Thousands headed for Nurseries Direct Garden Centre last weekend (22nd & 23rd August) for our annual Wildlife Weekend.
Offering gardeners an opportunity to speak to the experts and learn more about encouraging, attracting and supporting wildlife in the garden, and stock up on bird food and feeders for the coming autumn, the two-day event also included a chance to get up close to some magnificent birds of prey. Galloway Falconry, the only qualified falconry team in South West Scotland, brought along an array of stunning birds including Murray, a rare white-tailed sea eagle; Awkward, a red tailed buzzard; harris hawks Griffin and Beaux; Whisper, a three month old barn owl; and twelve week old Tikka, a beautiful young eagle owl. There were also bees galore, with an observation hive on display from Ayr & District Beekeepers, as well as experts from the RSPB, Scottish Wildlife Trust and the Scottish Agricultural Collage, award-winning honey producers Richard Morton & Sons, and local wildlife and landscape photographer Ian Geddes. And, not to be outdone by the birds and the bees, Kilmarnock FC's own Nutz the Squirrel joined the fun on Saturday.
Thanks to all who joined us for over the weekend!
